The Growth of a Family Business

With a background in business and advertising, Paul Murphy worked in the graphic arts industry for over twenty years, in positions ranging from graphic consultant to sales representative for printing corporations and equipment manufacturers.

In 1983, Paul established Murphy & Company as a family-owned print brokerage serving Boston's legal and financial institutions. In 1986, the company moved into our present 10,000-square-foot space with little more than a few phones and a plank-and-cinderblock "desk." Soon, single- and two-color offset presses were on the shop floor, and the latest in desktop publishing equipment and digital communications soon followed.

In 1998, after 12 years of persistent hard work (average days ranging 12 to 20 hours), Murphy & Company's first six-color Heidelberg press arrived, the first Heidelberg of that size and configuration in New England. The Murphys set their goal to become a reliable print source, providing a broader range of customers with exceptional service and high-quality commercial printing.

Today, Murphy and Company employs a committed crew, with most of our employees averaging 10+ years. Automation and digital print equipment allow increased capacity and faster turnarounds. As our processes advance, and services broaden, our customers rely on us as the solid choice for artisan-produced print and print-driven multimedia. The longevity of both our employees and loyal customer base speaks of our commitment to building long-term relationships and offering the best in craftsmanship, innovation, and customer service.
